During my long-term subbing position one of the classes I was responsible for was RTii Math and Reading. This is a time where the students are split by ability level to get extra instruction in Math and Reading/Writing at their ability level. The itinerant teachers get the top students and are to teach math and reading/writing using their subject area such as music. For reading/writing RTii I did a unit on music telling a story and we studied Peter and the Wolf and Carnival of the Animals. We read the books that go along with those pieces, listened to the music and talked about the music and instruments. As an ending project the students had 2 options. They could either pick Peter and the Wolf and write their own ending and tell what instruments they would use plus how the music would sound or for Carnival of the Animals they had to pick a different animal and write a poem describing the animal and the music. Below are some pictures of the student’s projects.
